I'd like to think that I've always known what I wanted to do. I'd like to think that i came out of the womb with a wacom tablet in my hand, but alas, i didn't... i came out with a pencil!
drawing has always been a passion for me, but it wasn't until I discovered artist like n.c. wyeth and frank frazetta that i truly came to love color.
to say i fell in love with wyeth's works and his use of color in his shadows is an understatement. the man hardly, if ever, made a shadow "black." his shadows always incorporated color. they were always vibrant. they conveyed the mood of the piece almost as much as the subject matter of the painting.
frazetta introduced me to fantasy and dynamic composition. he showed me how to use color and repetition to help convey the story.
but still up to this point i only wanted to draw comics. i had dabbled in coloring, but not immersed myself in it. then i met folks like laura martin, who showed me a way use what these two titans had showed me earlier in the comic book medium.
